DIY - Why didn't my resin piece cure?

Why didn't my epoxy resin piece cure?

I've had my share of resin items that did not cure properly. Here are some of the most common causes:

  • Using the wrong type of resin for the mold. For example, if using casting resin for a deep mold, it might not cure properly. The manufacturer should have a chart or something explaining which resin to use for the type of project.
  • Not using the correct ratio of part A and part B. Measure by the manufacturer's directions (some suggest weight, but most suggest volume). Personally, I measure in milliliters rather than ounces, as it is much easier to get the proper amounts.
  • Not mixing the resin properly - always mix the resin for at least the minimum suggested time, and mix it thoroughly. I usually mix for an extra minute than is called for.
  • Unfortunately, temperature and humidity levels can affect curing. High humidity might require an extra day before unfolding. Cold temperatures can also affect the cure rate.
